The Steel Upgrading Partnerships and Emissions Reduction (SUPER) Act was established in the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022. The act encourages increased competitiveness of American manufacturing through the authorization of a Department of Energy (DOE) crosscutting Research and Development (R&D) program that targets low-emission steel production. DOE will create a five-year plan to support R&D activities and establish technical and programmatic goals, along with other efforts to commercialize new low-emission technologies. The act was signed into law in 2022 but has yet to be funded.
